We made it!

[July 2026]

Walking my first labyrinth meditation this week on Gumbaynggirr Country, Dangar Falls, NSW. On the walk inwards I contemplated fears and doubts (all the usual suspects). As I approached the centre, I wondered what it was going to feel like, then reminded myself to stay present.

Just as I settled, in a delightful moment of interconnection and mirroring, a young boy and his father reached the top of the stairs up from the waterfall. He called out in delight “We made it!!!” They fist-pumped. His dad affirmed “Great job! Some of the stairs were tough, but we did it”. I began giggling out loud. Yes, we made it!

My giggle caught the boy’s attention, and he assumed there was something funny in the bowl placed at the centre of the labyrinth. He ran straight to the middle, ignoring all the contemplative pavement patterns, straight to the source! We laughed together (from different perspectives on this shared situation).

As I recommenced my meditative walk, carefully circling back outwards on the labyrinth- he ran between the centre and the edge playing something like dodgeball with me. His father politely apologised and offered to call him. I assured him that no, that this moment was just perfect.
